CITY OF BRANDON - TRANSIT STATION

The City of Brandon wanted to upgrade their existing transit station building, and incorporate their ticketing center which was previously located off site.  The facility, which contains offices spaces and also functions as a rest and training area for transit drivers, was in need of both interior and exterior updating, and it was imperative that the new design provide universal accessibility to the building for transit users and staff.

Sputnik was able to breathe new life into the exterior of the building by adding a contemporary weathered steel canopy over the relocated entry way and new ramp.  A secure public space is provided upon entry for transit riders to purchase tickets and access customer services.  Sputnik also designed a custom, secure, metal surround for a digital display to provide users with up-to-date transit information and schedules.  The main floor also contains two offices and a barrier free washroom.  The basement underwent structural remediation to reinforce the existing foundation walls, and now serves as a rest area for transit drivers with a new staff area and training room.  Sputnik was responsible for the design and construction drawing package and assisted the client with contract administration throughout construction.
